RB Leipzig have appointed Domenico Tedesco as the new head coach following the resignation of former boss Jesse Marsch earlier this month.

March rose from Red Bull Salzburg and came first in the summer as a replacement for Julian Nagelsmann, but his resignation followed three consecutive Bundesliga losses that have left Leipzig in the bottom half of the table.

Tedesco arrives at Red Bull Arena on a contract until the end of next season. He is only 36 but got his first top job with Schalke when he was only 31. He was fired by Schalke in 2019 but was named Spartak Moscow later that year and left at the end of his contract this summer.

With only modest playing days in his name, Tedesco, whose family moved from Italy to Germany when he was little, is a career coach who started as an assistant with Stuttgart’s U17 over 13 years ago in the summer of 2008.

Tedesco will be joined in Leipzig by assistant Andreas Hinkel and Max Urwantschky, who will be added to the existing coaching staff by Marco Kurth (assistant), Frederik Gossling (goalkeeper) and Ruwen Faller, Kai Kraft and Daniel Behlau (fitness). Achim Beierlorzer has left the club.

Tedesco will lead its first training session as Leipzig boss on Thursday afternoon, before taking care of its first match when Borussia Mönchengladbach visit on Saturday.
