Real Madrid predicted the line-up against Shakhtar

Real Madrid host Shakhtar Donetsk in one of Wednesday’s early Champions League matches, as a win at the Santiago Bernabeu could help them regain the top spot in Group D.

Their defeat against Sheriff on match day two means that they are below the Moldovan champions in the table, and Inter are hot on their heels just two points behind them.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team dismantled Shakhtar 5-0 in the reverse match two weeks ago, but will be desperate to secure their first home win in Europe this season to avoid another air battle for qualifying from the group stage.

Here is XI the Italian should choose on Wednesday night …

Thibaut Courtois (GK) – Undisputed number one in the club and Real need a win, so it is probably not time to change goalkeeper.

Lucas Vazquez (RB) – Somehow he has not joined Arsenal or Everton yet, but hey, he will do a job at least.

Eder Militao (CB) – Finally to grow to his own at Los Blancos, although it has probably been helped by the lack of competition for places in his position.

David Alaba (CB) – Real’s most commanding defender nowadays. Stands at 5’11 “.

Ferland Mendy (LB) – Marcelo has had some fruitful cameos recently but Mendy is still ahead of him in the picks.

Casemiro (DM) – Even after all these years, Casemiro seems quite irreplaceable in Real’s midfield.

Toni Kroos (CM) – Has really rolled back the years the last few weeks with some fantastic shows.

Luka Modric (CM) – Yep, it’s time for the old gang to gather again in the middle of the park.

Vinicius Junior (RW) – He has taken many of the headlines this season, and it is well deserved. However, his compatriot Rodrygo may have gotten off to a good start if he fit.

Karim Benzema (CF) – Will probably not win the Ballon d’Or even if he does two hat tricks in this one. Sorry, Karim.Eden Hazard (LW) – If Hazard can not even beat it at home against Shakhtar, then he really should not play for Real Madrid.
