Real Madrid will postpone Kylian Mbappe’s approach until after the Champions League clash

Real Madrid are expected to postpone their plans to approach Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe after the two teams were drawn against each other in the Champions League round of 16.

After initially facing Benfica in the first draw, Real got an appetizing draw with PSG in the draw – a decision that made Los Blancos smoke.

In addition to reunions with Keylor Navas, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Angel Di Maria, Mbappe will also turn to the side he was able to join just a few months later.

Mbappe is about to leave PSG as a free agent during the summer and Real had planned to start formal negotiations in January when he enters the last six months of his contract and is entitled to sign a pre-contract agreement to secure his next move.

But AS note that Los Blancos feels more than a little uncomfortable about it now.

With two meetings with PSG set for February 15 and March 9, Real do not want to be accused of disturbing Mbappe and the Ligue 1 leaders by immediately moving after him, and there are also fears that he would be accused by PSG fans of he was found to have spoken to Real before the match.

As a result, Real will push back their plans to talk to Mbappe and will only do so after the second leg on March 9, with the expectation that they will still be able to sign him anyway.

L’Equipe takes a similar approach and rules out an imminent agreement, but this report also says that a possible extension with PSG is also off the table until after the match.

PSG remain in talks with Mbappe and are believed to be preparing a final offer for a new deal, but little or no progress has been made and all indications are that he will eventually leave the Parc des Princes when his current deal expires on 30 June.

Both clubs are keen to protect Mbappe in public and do not want fans to turn to him for “trying to leave”, so everything is expected to be put on ice by March.
