Results from the FA Cup third round

Cambridge made the headlines in Saturday’s FA Cup third round, where the League One team dumped Premier League Newcastle out of the competition at St James’ Park.

Joe Ironside scored the only goal of the match for the visitors in the lower league in the second half, while Newcastle were frustrated at the other end, especially in the first half, by goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

Elsewhere, Chelsea had some problems against Chesterfield in the National League, scoring five points at Stamford Bridge on a comfortable evening in west London.

The Leicester owners put Watford by the sword in their Premier League match, which is more than could be said about Everton, who fought against Championship Hull and needed extra time to finally get a five-goal thriller.

Southampton also won 3-2 in overtime against Championship opposition and beat Swansea. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace revealed Millwall in a South vs East London derby.

It was also a continuation of the FA Cup’s saga for Kidderminster. The Tier six club was the lowest ranked side left in the competition when they entered this round and placed in the draw for the fourth round thanks to an impressive victory over Reading.
