Roma’s bid for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Roma have placed a bid for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles who would make the player move to the Italian capital on a first loan until the end of the season.

The Serie A team has not strayed from the English market in recent years, long before Jose Mourinho was named to the club, after signing Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham, Edin Dzeko, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Rui Patricio directly from Premier League clubs. . .

Maitland-Niles, who has only started twice in the league so far this season, may be the latest to make the switch if Arsenal find Rome’s obvious offer acceptable.

The Daily Mail writes that the offer on the table is on loan until the end of the season after a call option of 8.4 million pounds (€ 10 million) during the summer. The deal would include a loan fee of £ 600,000.

Initial negotiations must have taken place before Christmas, which has now led to a formal tender being submitted.

Maitland-Niles has long been frustrated with his fringe status at Arsenal. He moved to West Brom on loan during the second half of last season and looked set to be ready for a summer transfer to Everton until the transfer was blocked by the Gunners.

This led to a controversial post on social media from the 24-year-old, who wrote on Instagram afterwards that he just wants to “go where I want and where I will play”.

After that, Maitland-Niles received a short message to train away from Arsenal’s first team. He has returned to the squad since then but has not made an appearance in the Premier League since November 20.

Should he leave Arsenal now, he would do so after making 122 appearances in all competitions in four and a half years as a permanent first-team player.
