Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has apologized to the club’s supporters for the ill-considered comments in an interview with Italian media that led to him getting rid of a draw against Liverpool.

Speaking to Sky Italia in an interview conducted a few weeks ago but not aired until last week, Lukaku revealed that he was unhappy with his adaptation to Thomas Tuchel’s tactical system and admitted his love for the former club Inter – going so far as to say he would like to return to the San Siro while he’s still on top.

The head coach confirmed that Lukaku had apologized to him and his teammates on Tuesday, and that same evening Chelsea shared his own interview with the player, where he took the opportunity to pay his membership fees to the club’s support.
“To the fans, I’m sorry for the outrage I’ve caused,” he said. “You know what a connection I have had with this club since my teens. I really understand that you are upset.
“Of course it’s up to me now to restore your confidence and I will do my best, show commitment every day on the training ground and in matches and try to make sure we win matches.
“I also apologize to the manager, and to my teammates and the board, because it was not the right time, and I want to get out of this and make sure we start winning football matches and that I perform for the team in the best way.”
