Spurs cruise to 3-0 victory over Colchester

Tottenham got their first pre-season victory and their first in the Nuno Espirito Santo era when they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Colchester on Wednesday night.

Although Spurs were without their Euro 2020 participants – especially Harry Kane – Nuno put together a strong team for the trip to JobServe Community Stadium, with Lucas Moura, Dele Alli and Steven Bergwijn selected to play behind Son Heung-min.

It did not take long for the visitors to take their step when Son opened the scoring with just under ten minutes on the clock.

After Moura’s clever through ball had released Bergwijn, the Dutchman seemed to leave his side the lead, but instead he unselfishly chose to square the ball to Son who had the easiest tasks to knock the ball home.

Tottenham did not have to wait long to double their lead, as Moura was in a garden with space in the area to drive a brilliant gaze beyond Shamal George’s desperate dive into the Colchester goal to make it 2-0 to Spurs. with only 14 minutes played.

The home team gave a decent account of themselves and had plenty of shots on goal, although the only real quality was found was in the Spurs front line and Alli put the result without a doubt just seven minutes before half time.

⚽️? Some good build-up play from Paskotši and Sonny before @dele_official turns it over the line and makes it 3-0! #SpursPreSeason

Young Maksim Paskotsi’s smart ball along the line gave Son all the time in the world to lift his head and pick a teammate, with Alli steaming in to bravely throw himself on the ball and anything but finish the game as a competition before the interval.

Nuno looked to make the changes as the game continued with 11 substitutes being introduced to the game, and while the players disrupted the flow of play a bit, the Spurs boss will be pleased to have recorded his first win as Tottenham’s head coach.
