Things to know about the midfielder

The world may be in a constant state of uncertainty, but it’s nice to know that some things will always remain the same – Bayern Munich produces top, top talent is one of them.

Bayern started their Bundesliga title defense in September with a thumping 8-0 victory against Schalke, while teenager Jamal Musiala became the club’s youngest goal scorer ever – breaking the previous record set by an 18-year-old Roque Santa Cruz.

Although he spent most of his childhood in England, Musiala was born in Stuttgart, Germany and lived there until he was seven.

His dual citizenship has seen him represent both England and Germany at the youth level, although his two international appearances for Germany in the 16th century are far outweighed by his appearance for the Young Lions.

Musiala has chosen to play for Germany at international senior level and recently made his debut for Die Mannschaft.

Chelsea have made a habit of letting budding superstars leave the club in recent years – but in fairness, when you have 50% of all footballers in the world on your books, it will surely happen once or twice.

Musiala may well be the next name that will be noticed at the end of ” Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Mohamed Salah ” roll of honor after he left the Blues in July 2019.

The Bayern man spent eight years at Chelsea after moving to Stamford Bridge in 2011 after a brief stint with Southampton.

After signing for Chelsea, Musiala was hired at Whitgift School in Croydon.

Former students at the school include Callum Hudson-Odoi, Victor Moses and Bertrand Traore, who would all continue to represent Chelsea at senior level.

Becoming the youngest Bayern goal scorer ever will not be a tag that weighs heavily on Musiala’s shoulders – he is well versed in breaking records.

England during the 17-year-old international can already proudly boast of being Bayern’s youngest player ever, having made their club debut just 17 years and 115 days old in the club’s 3-1 victory against Freiburg in June.

At six feet, Musiala is far from diminutive, although he has admitted that he must add muscle to his narrow frame if he is to compete at the top level.

The midfielder has been compared to Tottenham man Dele Alli – prefers to play in role number ten – even though he has previously been placed as number nine.

The 17-year-old is predominantly right-footed but has full capacity to cut to the left and is proud of his powerful strike.

Just look at that goal over and over again, Bayern fans. They have plenty of injuries, but still have players of Musiala’s quality to call.

His goal against Lazio in February 2021 made him the youngest English goal scorer ever in the Champions League and broke Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s record. Musiala was still 17 at the time.

Other English stars who scored points at UCL in their teens are Jadon Sancho, Theo Walcott, Phil Foden and Wayne Rooney. It’s decent business to keep.

The goal also made him Bayern’s youngest goal scorer in the competition.
