Tuchel responds to Conte’s Lukaku feedback

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has defended his use of striker Romelu Lukaku following allegations by former Inter boss Antonio Conte that he has not discovered the best way to use the Belgian.

Conte led Lukaku to 24 targets in 36 Serie A video games final season and just lately admitted that he didn’t agree with Tuchel’s resolution to play the striker as a pure goalkeeper – a position that left Lukaku painfully remoted in Chelsea’s final two video games.

“I do not think Chelsea have figured out how to use him yet,” Conte mentioned just lately (by way of The Guardian). “He is a very specific striker. Bringing Lukaku into the box, he’s dangerous. But when he starts from midfield, he is incredibly fast. It is very difficult to find a player who is both a goalkeeper but can also run from midfield. ”

Asked about Conte’s comments, Tuchel suggested that the Italian should not have watched Chelsea all season, otherwise he would not have been able to make such a statement.

“He was clearly not on TV after the Tottenham recreation,” said Tuchel. “I don’t really feel offended, he is true. He is within the TV studio. I even noticed it once I took a bathe earlier than the match on the resort.

“I saw him talk about us and I saw all the pictures between Romelu and our players from the Tottenham game. They talked about the connecting game from Romelu, and how strong he is and how much he did so they praised him.

“I can see it however it isn’t a Romelu Lukaku drawback. The different groups have modified their construction to shut down Romelu however there are answers to this. We are engaged on it.”

When asked to dive a little deeper into what he meant by other teams changing their structure, Tuchel insisted that Chelsea’s opponents have all sunk deeper than normal to deal with Lukaku’s threat.

“Teams are effectively ready for us,” Tuchel continued. “I can see Zenit St Petersburg play a again 5 for the primary time within the final 200 video games we noticed.

“I can see Aston Villa play a back five against us and they have never played a back five before. We have to accept that. Do not get angry about it. Play for free no matter what.”
