Norwich City host a new look at Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday night.

Dean Smith went on his first loss in the Canary dugout away against Tottenham last weekend, which ended Norwich’s abundance in four games without a loss despite creating a number of chances. Ralf Rangnick won a 1-0 victory on his Old Trafford debut and is ready for his first match on the road with the head of the Red Devils.

Here’s everything you need to know about the clash …

A guaranteed absence from Norwich’s squad is Manchester United loaner Brandon Williams, who can not face his mother club.

At the same time, Christoph Zimmermann is recovering from ankle surgery and Sam Byram is building up his match condition. Milot Rashica is also doubtful with a groin injury which on closer inspection is more significant than first expected.

Mathias Normann, however, aims to be available for the visit of United after being away with a problem in his pelvic area during the last two matches.

Raphael Varane has not been with United since the beginning of November, but together with the absent Edinson Cavani he will return to team training next week.

The path for Paul Pogba’s return after a thigh injury that was taken up on international service has been left decidedly vague, but it is unlikely that he will be with for the rest of 2021.

Anthony Martial missed Rangnick’s first two games in charge due to a crunching knee injury that makes his availability questionable.

Norwich have taken a victory in the middle of their last nine meetings with United in all competitions and lost the other eight.

The Canary Islands’ latest victory at Carrow Road came back in 2012, thanks to a goal from Anthony Pilkington – a former youth product from Manchester United who played under Robbie Fowler in East Bengal in the Indian Super League last season.

Rangnick stressed the importance of winning over “nice football or intense football” ahead of United’s midweek dead rubber against Young Boys.

But the intensity that his new accusations (at regular intervals) showed against Crystal Palace may well prove the way to success against a team from Norwich who want to keep the ball and expand from the back.

Although it will take much longer than a week or so to train to bring this undoubtedly talented but often disorganized Manchester United squad into Rangnick’s idealistic football brand, they may well have enough to get past the Premier League’s basement dwellers.

Prediction: Norwich 0-2 Manchester United
