Brighton and Brentford return to Premier League games against each other for the top-flight final match on the second day of Christmas.

The South Coast hosts have had two of their last three scheduled matches postponed due to covid outbreaks, which meant a defeat at home against Wolves between these non-events. Brentford have not played in a Premier League match in more than two weeks – but it was a 2-0 loss to Chelsea for a mid-week Carabao Cup match.

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming meeting between this underplayed couple.

Brighton will continue to be without their talisman skipper Lewis Dunk as he recovers from ligament injuries that do not require surgery, but have ruled him out until the end of January.

But center-back colleague Adam Webster may well be available after recovering from his own fitness problems.

Shane Duffy further strengthens Brighton’s defensive reserves after serving a suspension. Still, Yves Bissouma has suffered the same fate and received his fifth booking for the season in Brighton’s last outing against Wolves, which excludes him from Sunday’s match.

Neal Maupay and Pascal Gross will have served their ten-day solitary confinement periods after positive covid tests until the second day of Christmas, but Graham Potter may not be throwing them back into action immediately.

Steven Alzate (ankle) and Jeremy Sarmiento (thighs) are also highly unlikely to participate.

Joshua Dasilva and Julian Jeanvier are at an early stage of their comebacks after long-term injuries, although both have taken the progressive step of getting out on the pitch again.

Kristoffer Ajer and Mathias Jorgensen each suffer from thigh problems, although the latter must be assessed weekly, while the club’s record arrival will probably not be shown until 2022.

David Raya is still a long way from a return to action while Charlie Goode – who sat outside Brentford’s cup departure to Chelsea in the middle of the week with an effort in his hamstring – is a doubt ahead of Sunday.

You can read Brentford’s expected line-up here.

Brighton and Brentford have met in eight different competitions over the years, including all four levels of the English Pyramid. Brighton won their first ever Premier League match in September, securing a 33rd victory over the Bees from 75 matches (D14 L28).

Since Brighton’s 1-0 win over Brentford in their fourth league game of the season, Potter’s team has only won one more success in the competition. Unprofitable in their last 11 top matches, Seagulls outrageous draw has eight of those matches.

Brentford have only amassed four more points in the same time frame as Thomas Frank’s team has sunk into a similar dip from the early heights of their late summer start.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Brentford
