Crystal Palace and West Ham play their first Premier League match in 2022 when they meet at Selhurst Park in a London derby on New Year’s Day.
Both teams will go into a draw in the hope of building on very good results last time. Palace in tenth place beat Norwich 3-0, while West Ham in fifth place must keep up the pressure in the race for the Champions League qualifier after not taking any prisoners in a 4-1 attack against Watford.
Here is a 90 minute preview of this New Year’s Day meeting.

The hosts should be able to welcome back Conor Gallagher, whose absence against Norwich was just a precaution. Wilfried Zaha will also return to action, having served his suspension on a match recently.
Elsewhere, Ebere Eze, Michael Olise, James McArthur and Nathaniel Clyne are expected to continue to miss while Joachim Andersen can join them, after suffering a knock on Tuesday night.
Perhaps the most significant absentee, however, will be Patrick Vieira. The Crystal Palace boss will continue his isolation period, allowing Osian Roberts to once again be a replacement on the sidelines.

The main news for David Moyes’ side is that Declan Rice will be able to return from suspension, and probably replace Mark Nobel in the heart of midfield.
There are doubts about Pablo Fornal’s availability for the trip to Palace, as the Spaniard was left outside Moyes’ match day squad in Hammers beating Watford.
Elsewhere, however, their squad looks healthy. The only safe absences are midfielder Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma who are the first choice, with left-back Aaron Cresswell on the treatment table.

The Hammers are happiest when you take history into account. West Ham have won 24 of the two clubs’ 63 meetings, and Palace have only won 16 times – there have been 23 draws.
In recent years, however, it has proved to be much smoother. The Eagles soared to victory on two occasions during the 2019/20 campaign, beating West Ham 2-1 at home and away, and kept the impressive Champions League champions a 2-2 draw at London Stadium earlier this season.
It should not be too much to separate these two sides. Both come to Saturday’s match-up with rocky periods behind them but also after important and self-confidence victories.

It will most likely take a moment or two of quality to decide the match of the day and although Palace are more than capable of producing magic with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and the returning Zaha and Gallagher, the caliber of Hammer’s creative and attacking threats – both as their less exhausted contingent – should make them make the competition better.
Forecast: Crystal Palace 1-2 West Ham
