In 2021, a new generation of the American men’s national team emerged and succeeded.
USMNT holds the record for the youngest group list currently competing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. At the start of the team’s training camp in September, the squad had an average age of 24 years and 43 days.
Thirteen players who were part of the qualifying campaign in 2021 were under 23 years old.
When they played against Jamaica in November, the eleven starters had an average age of 22 years, 341 days, the second youngest player list to start a World Cup qualifier in history.
But age did not stop the team from flourishing. This USMNT team defeated Mexico in two official competitions, a feat that had not been completed in seven years. And they did not stay there.

This year, the American side introduced two trophies to its collection after defeating Mexico back-to-back CONCACAF competitions.
The American men’s national team began their victory race with a spectacular 3-2 victory over Mexico in the Nations League final to lift the tournament’s first trophy. The Yanks then went on to prove their worth once again when they met their North American rivals in the Gold Cup final a month later.
USMNT suddenly faced Mexico without the players who inspired the success of the Nations League, forcing head coach Gregg Berhalter to trust the newest generation of players to seal the deal.
They did not disappoint, they managed to win a 1-0 victory to secure back-to-back triumphs and become the national team with the most official trophies in 2021.

By ending the year with a record of 17-2-3, the US men’s national team managed a winning percentage of .841, the best in a calendar year when five or more matches were played.
