Iran claims to have thwarted US attempt to ‘steal’ Arabian Sea oil

Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards foiled a US attempt to “steal” oil from the Islamic Republic in the Arabian Sea, Iranian state television reported on Wednesday, saying the incident had happened recently.

Contacted for comment, the Bahrain-based U.S. Navy Fifth Fleet said it had seen reports of the incident but currently had no information to provide.

Iranian state television said US forces used helicopters and warships in an attempt to block an Iranian tanker in the Arabian Sea. Iranian English-language Press TV said the tanker had returned to Iranian territorial waters.

Iran has repeatedly warned the United States against its military activities in the Gulf, saying the Guard’s naval forces have increased patrols to also secure passage for Iranian ships and combat fuel smuggling.
